A Bit of Info

Ramrod are a ‘hard, heavy, rockin’, three-piece combo, from Glasgow, Scotland.

Formed in 2016, they started off as a fuck about on guitarist Spuck ‘Bonkers’ Johnstone’s computer with dodgy copies of home recording software, a drum machine called Ailsa and an endless supply of alcohol.

The band officially got together when Jim moved back to Glasgow after many years over in Groningen playing with infamous nutjobs Fleas and Lice. Him and Spuck worked on a couple of songs and put vocals on them, then recruited an old Irish mate (who’d moved back to Glasgow again) to take over from Ailsa on drums.

After doing a couple of gigs in Glasgow and plenty of practicing, they had enough songs to go in and record a 9 track LP at 16 Ohm Studio, over in the East End, run by Tommy, an ex-band mate of Jim and Spucks with Machine Gun Etiquette.

They played a couple more gigs in Ireland and Groningen, then Chris decided to move back home, so the band were on the lookout for a new drummer. They found one in another old accomplice (and one of Jim’s oldest mates) by the name of Stoney, who’d been doing some stints on hip hop crossover stuff, but was looking for a band to play with just at the right time.

After a good run of practices and some gigs over in Holland and Germany, as well as local gigs in Glasgow, they started writing some new songs and contacted Tommy to go back into 16Ohm to do album number 2. They got halfway through, then lockdown kicked in (and cancelled some upcoming gigs as well), which wasn’t the best of timing, then again, what is good timing for a global pandemic! Fortunately, restrictions were lowered during the summer and they managed to get back in and record some more songs, but then lockdown kicked back in again and the LP was put on hold again.

Thankfully things started to get back to normal (well, as normal as it can be at the moment) and they got back into 16 Ohm with Tommy and finished off the 2nd LP. It should be available Christmas 2021!
